1.00Can I do work on electrical outlets on my job If I'm not a licensed electrician?
Q.I do plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting and Hvac repair as well as all kinds of other things on my job. Does anybody know if this is legal under Osha regulations? Thank you in advance for any and all help.
A.OSHA Doesn't matter you need to check with the local jurisdiction if you can or not, IF it's your home then yes you can but If you are Billing someone for Electrical work The No you can't you're not licensed, bonded or insured at the rates that Electricians are required to be, your jurisdiction may allow you to replace outlets or simple repairs and that may require you to have a maintenance license.
1.00Electrical Issues w/ house: Home inspector checked electrical using generator. Part of house did not power on?
Q.I am looking at a house and had a home inspection done. The inspector said he tested the electrical system using a generator and part of the house did not power on. What could be the issue? How much would repair cost to such issue?
A.I am wondering if he only hooked up to one leg of power ….
You need to find out how he did his test …was he back feeding the system through an outlet.
1.00Electricians: Is it safe to use electrical tape on a electrical cord semi damaged by vaccume run over?
Q.(No I didn't do it.) I have a used vacuum and it has some damage to it's electrical cord by someone running over it several times. Some of the electrical wires are exposed but there is no damage to the wires, so it seems. What do you recommend other than replacing the vacuum? Thanks
You all did a good job! Thank you!
A.You say that the cord is damaged and the electrical wires are exposed. I'm working on an assumption that the "outer" (black) insulation of the cord is damaged and you can actually see the "inner" insulation that covers the wires inside the cord. ( black, white and green)
If this is a correct assumption, it is my "suggestion" that you purchase some "Scotch 33+" electrical tape and wrap the damaged part of the cord using 1/2 wrap each time you go around the cord. Starting 2" from the end of the damaged area. wrap the tape, keeping it pulled taunt, and go past the damaged area 2" down. 1X is good. 2X even better. The use of "jap crap" (cheap) electrical tape is just asking for trouble. Yes, the cheap tape is .55 a roll and "Scotch 33+ is $5.00 a roll, but I promise you that you do this once and you'll never have to do it again. Unless you loan the vacuum out to the person that did it in the first place. (Ha-Ha)
Now, if there is ANY copper showing in the damaged area, please, please do NOT try to repair it. Replacement is safer.
Good luck in all you do and may God bless.
1.00What is the engineering function of an Electrical Engineering company? This is in the tertiary sector?
Q.I know their services such as including lighting, general power, UPS, generators, energy management, CCTV, fire alarm, security systems, data and communication services. But how is their service process carried out? like in maintenance and repair? what is the process they do it in?
thanks in advance.
A.Electrical engineers work in so many sectors with so many guidelines that theres no universal process. the best thing to do would be to find a specific branch of the industry and explore that.
1.00Are there hidden fees in quotes for electrical work?
Q.I got a quote from an electrical contractor and it seemed pretty low. I was wondering if electrical contractors normally leave out extra fees that will be accrued or inspectors fees that will also end up having to be paid.
A.Is your quote for the electrical work or for the complete job? If you asked him to wire an addition on your house, he is assuming you have all the proper building permits in place. If you asked him to run or repair a wire or outlet inside the house, no real permit is required, unless it is for a large appliance like an AC unit, Furnace, etc.
Maybe he is hurting like the rest of us and thinks a lowball estimate is a sure job compared to a highball and no job, [a fast nickel is always better than a slow dime].
Call and ask, is the estimate for the complete job, start to finish or what exactly is included. Don't be shy, an informed customer is a good customer. If your happy with his work and the time he spends on your questions, you are more likely to refer him to others, he knows that also.
1.00Easy Caldera Spa Repair? Electrical?
Q.Need Hot tub expert's advice and input!
We are looking into getting a free (basically we pick up) spa. Its a 2005 Caldera Spas Hot tub - Cumberland.
The original owner said that the problem with the hot tub is on one of the electrical boards that controls the heat. Our local Hot Springs dealer told them it would be around $1000 to fix. My husband is pretty handy and wouldn't mind taking on this repair. Do you think it would be an easy repair for someone? Do you know if Caldera Spas have the full foam insulation much like Hot Springs? Where is a good online retailer of parts and also have good support for DIY'ers? Any other tips for moving the spa home, the owner has kept water in it and the water moving so it doesn't freeze, they are just done with all the hassle and want it gone.
I'm not very impressed with our local dealership, so would not want to work with them anyway. :)
A.I looked for a manual on line for one of these tubs, but couldn't find one. I had a pool and spa business for 6 years, and could fix anything, provided I could get the parts.
You should try to contact Caldera, so you can get the part from them. But you need to know what is exactly wrong with it. So you're husband will need to trace back from the heater to determine the problem.
You might try these guys also.
